Remember when we talked about how daunting and frustrating it is to wade through countless documents, receipts and tax records- in a scramble trying to get everything to your tax professional on time?! Let me refresh your mind, click here. Now, that your mind is refreshed let’s chat about why it is super important to develop a relationship with your tax professional and by doing so, how you will save even more time and money in the future.
As a tax professional, I know the benefits of planning outweigh everything. Good tax planning requires knowing and understanding my clients, their business, and their objectives. I use this planning time to really make a solid difference, by asking questions, giving organization advice, and really getting to know my client’s and their business.
I know how important it is to make sure all my clients have their tax information organized and ready to go before tax season hits. Here are some of the key documents business owners will need to have prepared to file their taxes:
- W-2’s from employers
- 1099 forms
- Social Security Benefits
- Any income from last year’s tax refund
- Any additional income sources
- Rental income
Thankfully, there are tons of accounting software programs that can help you do most of the heavy lifting when it comes to getting organized and staying that way. Popular programs like QuickBooks and Quicken are often used today. These programs will help you track expenses, income, and payroll. This becomes more important if you are ever audited because these programs keep a digital backup of all your files.
As you form a relationship with your tax professional, each year your taxes become less daunting and frustrating- the process becomes less and less painful. You will start to see how much time was wasted finding tax documents and driving them to and from a tax office and how much money your business can really save.
